Batons of Steel Majorettes met this amazing little boy on the 4th July 2010. Please read the letter below which is from his family.
Dear Friends,
Dylan needs your help to raise £50,000 to pay for him to have an operation in America called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy plus orthopaedic surgery. This operation is not available in the UK. Dylan is 5 years old and has the condition cerebral palsy, he cannot walk independendently and his legs are stiff which causes him major discomfort on a daily basis. He is a very happy, bright, determined little boy with an infectious smile and it is his dream to be able to walk.
He was diagnosed with CP when he was 8 months old, he was born full term weighing 4.3 kg but due to a traumatic birth he was starved of oxygen for 45 minutes which has subsequently led to his condition. Unfortunately no amount of physiotherapy is going to change the damage that has been caused and walking is something that seemed an unachievable goal. Now he has been given the chance to have this operation and there is a way to give him the ability to walk. Amazing! We would like to ask if there is anyway you can help Dylan to fulfil his dream. Your help would mean that we are a step closer to seeing our son, grandson, brother, nephew and friend change his life forever.
Your kindness and generosity will without doubt not only change a little boy's life but all the people around him too.
Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR)
SDR is a neurosurgical procedure that effectively treats and permanently reduces spasticity.
This is what the outcome of the operation will be for Dylan:
- The progression of Dylan's right hip deformity will STOP.
- His sitting ability will be close to normal and standing postures will improve with his feet flat on the floor, his knees will be straighter and his trunk posture will improve.
- He will be able to walk functionally with a walker and there may be a chance of crutch walking if he is able to concentrate and focus on learning how to walk with crutches.
- His balance and level of comfort will all improve.
If there is anyway you feel you might be able to support us, whether it is a cash donation, raffle prize donation or you help with fundraising events it would be greatly appreciated.
Out of courtesy, we would like to let you know that as we are raising funds for an individual we cannot register as a charity but we wish to assure you that every penny raised for this appeal will be going towards Dylans Dream Fund. Thank you.
